HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – After a long morning of delays due to rain, the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational finally got underway at 1:45 p.m. Monday, from the Guyan Golf and Country Club. The teams played just one round, and the Marshall men's golf team is tied for sixth out of 15 teams.
The schools tried to give it a go in the morning, but the rain from the day before, and the rain still falling in the morning, was too much and the decision was made to play just one round on Monday and then a final round on Tuesday.
"It was a really long first day," Herd head coach Matt Grobe said. "We did all we could to get 36 holes in today but the weather just wasn't good enough. For the team's first round of the year, I was very excited. Isaac [Prine] and Matt [Hoffman] both played great today and the rest of the guys looked good as well. It was a good first day and I am looking forward to seeing us build on today."
Freshman Isaac Prine, who is playing as an individual, is tied for third overall after shooting a 4-under 67. Redshirt sophomore Matt Hoffman shot a 3-under 68 and is tied for seventh. Redshirt senior Thomas Frazier and freshman Kyle Mitchell also finished under par with a 1-under 70.
Wichita State leads the field (-17) and has the top two players on the leaderboard. Adrien Michellod is in first with a 7-under 64 and Zac Owens is second with a 5-under 66. Ben Sattler of Ohio scored a hole-in-one on the par 3 No. 6. Sattler is tied for seventh overall with a 3-under 68.
The final round of the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational will be played Tuesday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Live scoring can be viewed through www.birdiefire.com.
