Men’s Golf Completes Day One at EKU Intercollegiate

Final round begins with shotgun start at 9 a.m. on Sunday
RICHMOND, Ky. – The Marshall men's golf team completed day one at the EKU Intercollegiate. The Thundering Herd sits in eighth place out of 15 teams after 36 holes played at the University Club at Arlington.
"Today was a really exciting day for me as a coach," Herd head coach Matt Grobe said. "Our team just didn't have it today, our ball striking was off and we didn't get many putts to fall, but the guys fought and scrapped around the golf course.
"I was very happy with our effort and attitude. It will pay off in the future.
Freshman Kyle Mitchell leads the team in a tie for 13th after finishing with a 2-over 142. Redshirt sophomore Matt Hoffman sits in the top-30 in a tie for 22nd after a 3-over 143 on Saturday.
Eastern Michigan leads with a team score of 3-under 557. Billy Basham of EKU, Ty Celone of Eastern Michigan and Kyle Slattery of SIU Edwardsville sit atop the leaderboard in a three-way tie with a 3-under 137. Basham finished as the runner-up on Tuesday at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational.
The players tee off for the third and final round Sunday at 9 a.m., with a shotgun start. Live scoring is available through GolfStat.
