Herd RB rumbles for 220 yards, two scores

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Marshall running back Brenden Knox was named Conference USA's Offensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon. The vote is conducted each week by a panel of the league's media.

Knox ran 23 times for a career-high 220 yards (the nation's second-highest rushing total last weekend) and two touchdowns in Marshall's 36-31 win at Florida Atlantic. The final score came on a 17-yard run with 36 seconds left to propel the Thundering Herd past the Owls. It was the sophomore's second touchdown of the evening after plunging in from one yard out in the waning seconds of the first half. Of those 23 carries, none went for negative yardage. He also caught one pass for four yards. The Columbus, Ohio, native has scored a rushing touchdown in five of the last six games and has 11 rushing scores in his 12 career games. His 220 yards ranks eighth on the Marshall list for most rushing yards in a game and he became just the fifth Marshall player with multiple 200-yard games.  His 226 all-purpose yards at Florida Atlantic are the most by a Marshall player since Tyre Brady had 248 yards at NC State in 2017. Knox is No. 4 nationally for rushing yards this month (423) and ranks No. 7 nationally in rushes of 10+ yards this season with 24.

Marshall (4-3 overall, 2-1 Conference USA) hosts WKU (5-2, 4-0) Saturday at 2:30 p.m. ET for the Thundering Herd's annual Homecoming game. The game will carried by Facebook with Chris Hassel, A.J. Hawk and Kristen Balboni on the call.
