Second of career for Pita, first of career for Yosef

IRVING, Texas – The 21st-ranked Marshall men's soccer team swept the Conference USA player of the week awards, the league office announced Monday. Redshirt senior keeper Paulo Pita was named Defensive Player of the Week and redshirt freshman Milo Yosef was named Offensive Player of the Week.

This is the second weekly honor for Pita in Conference USA and the first in the career for Yosef. The men's soccer team has now garnered four total weekly honors, and three-straight weeks as senior Illal Osmanu was named Defensive Player of the Week back-to-back on Oct. 7 and 14.

"Paulo is a good representative of the whole defense," Herd head coach Chris Grassie said of his keeper. "He did a great job out on the west coast. He didn't have a ton to do, but he had some really important saves to make, and that was a function of the defense in front of him, but he had a couple big saves to make in both games and it kept us ticking."

Pita recorded five total saves over the last two matches at Loyola Marymount and San Diego State. The redshirt senior keeper is a leader on the field with the defense and helped keep the Herd in the lead. The Santos, Sao Paulo, Brazil native had three saves at Loyola Marymount and two more in the win at San Diego State. Pita has played every minute this season with all 10 wins and five shutouts. He has allowed just 10 goals in 13 matches and sports a 0.74 goals against average, good for second in the conference. Pita's .796 save percentage is also second in league and he has been ranked in the top 30 in the nation in both goals against average and save percentage.

"Milo, when he is in matches he can be unplayable and unstoppable," coach Grassie said. "It's kind of like feeding the lions. Just keep feeding him and feeding him and he will get one."

Yosef has been a dangerous attacker in his first season on the field for Marshall. The redshirt freshman tallied four goals and one assist out on the west coast. At Loyola Marymount, Yosef assisted on the Herd's second goal and then scored the team's third and fourth goals in the 4-1 win. At San Diego State, he helped to put the cap on the match scoring the third and fourth goals in the 5-1 victory. The Aachen, Germany native has three matches this season with two goals scored. Yosef leads the team and the conference with 10 goals and is the first player to score 10 goals in a season for Marshall since Tom Jackson in 2011.
