Box Score (PDF)
BOCA RATON, Fla. – The 15th-ranked Marshall men's soccer team lost in overtime, 1-0, to the Florida Atlantic Owls, Saturday night.
The Thundering Herd is now 10-2-3 overall and 3-1-1 in Conference USA. The Owls improve to 5-6-1 and 1-4-0 in league play.
"We were very off tonight," Herd head coach Chris Grassie said. "Credit to FAU they played very well and (Head coach) Joey (Worthen) is doing a great job down there. But we were off. Little injuries, tiredness, and lack of focus all hurt us a little bit tonight. But still, the season is in our hands. We can still win a C-USA Championship, and we can still get into the tournament. These were our goals at the beginning of the season and we're still in a great position to achieve them.
"We will not even think about these last two matches again. We will just get back to basics, back to the simple things that got us where we are thus far."
The teams battled for positioning throughout all 90 minutes of regulation ending at 0-0. The Owls were granted a penalty kick in the 98th minute and Ivan Mykhailenko was successful for the win.
The Herd had three shots on goal with one each from sophomore Vinicius Fernandes, redshirt freshman Milo Yosef, and freshman Joao Souza. Redshirt senior Paulo Pita finished with three saves in the match.
Marshall heads north for a match against the Oakland Golden Grizzlies on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m.
