BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Marshall men's golf team wrapped up the Health Plan Mountaineer Invitational, Tuesday afternoon at the Pete Dye Golf Course.
Marshall finished in 14th place.
"Really proud of the way the guys battled today," Herd head coach Matt Grobe said. "They really looked good in the final round. Looking forward to taking this momentum to Dayton."
The Herd continued to improve through each round of the event. Marshall had a 12-stroke improvement from round one to round two (325-313) and finished another 13 strokes better in the third (300) then in the second.
Junior Brad Plaziak led the Herd overall, tied for 40th. Redshirt junior Cameron Root scored seven strokes better in the third round (74) then in the second. Sophomore Kyle Mitchell also saw his score improve by 10 strokes in the final round with a 1-over 73.
West Virginia won its home tournament, finishing ahead of Florida Atlantic by three strokes. Kevin Scherr of Youngstown State took home the individual award ending the tournament with a 3-under 213, and two strokes ahead of five other players.
