Marshall is coming off a tough home win against the Norfolk State Spartans. The Herd held a 23-point advantage in the second quarter and a 22-point lead in the third before the Spartans rallied with a furious comeback attempt. Marshall fell behind by one with 5:33 to go in the game. The Herd then fought back to outscore Norfolk State 12-5 over the final minutes for the 75-69 win.

Freshman guard Savannah Wheeler was named Conference USA Freshman of the Week after scoring 37 combined points in her first two games. Wheeler was also very efficient shooting 72.2 percent (13-of-18) from the floor, 70.0 percent (7-of-10) from three and a perfect 4-of-4 from the line.

Junior Taylor Pearson has also scored in double figures in both games and is averaging 11.5 points per game.

Redshirt senior Khadaijia Brooks is the leading rebounder with 17 (8.5 per game) and nearly had a double-double versus Norfolk State with eight points and nine boards. She also came through with three blocks. However, the leading shot-blocker continues to be senior Ashley Saintigene. Saintigene opened the year with three blocks against Kentucky Christian and added four more swats against the Spartans. Her seven this season brings her career total to 88 and she is now eighth all-time in program history. Just ahead of Saintigene is Chris McClurkin (1984-88) with 91.
