Marshall comes into the season with a good mix of returners and young talent with eight returners and seven newcomers as the Herd looks to replace the production lost from departed seniors Shayna Gore and Taylor Porter. Head coach Tony Kemper enters his third season at the helm and directed an eight-win turnaround from the 2017-18 season. Marshall finished 2018-19 with a 17-15 record and a trip to the Women's Basketball Invitational.

Redshirt senior Khadaijia Brooks is back and has produced well since coming back from her knee injury. In 2018-19, Brooks was third on the team in scoring with 8.8 points per game and led in rebounding at 6.1 boards per contest. She also tallied 30 steals and led the team with 29 blocks.

Senior Ashley Saintigene looks to get back into the lineup after playing in just nine games last season due to a knee injury. During her nine games she averaged nearly eight points per game, four rebounds and had 17 swats. Fellow senior Princess Clemons comes in to the season building off of her first year in Division I basketball after transferring to Marshall from San Jacinto College. Last season she played in 31 contests and averaged 3.5 points and 3.6 rebounds per game.

Junior guard Kristen Mayo continued to improve throughout the year with more time on the floor. Mayo was second on the team with 96 assists and was tied for second with 41 steals. She also averaged 7.3 points per game. Fellow junior Taylor Pearson was another player who got better and better as the year rolled on. Pearson, along with Brooks, helped defend the paint with Saintigene out of the lineup and was consistently matched up against bigger players. However, the 5-7 Pearson held her own defensively and came up with some clutch plays down the stretch. Pearson averaged nearly six points a game and 5.6 boards per contest. Junior Brianna Toney returns after appearing in 16 contests as a sophomore and grabbed 13 boards and had two blocked shots.

The freshman tandem from last season of Kia Sivils and Lorelei Roper return after playing in 32 and 28 games, respectively. Sivils from her guard position came through with 28 steals last season. Roper averaged 3.2 rebounds per game and totaled 17 blocks.

New to the squad this year is junior college transfer Dazha Congleton, sophomore transfer from Ole Miss Mahogany Matthews and freshmen Christiana McLean, Savannah Wheeler, Alexis Johnson, Sky Thomas and Paige Shy.

Senior center Savannah Anderson leads in rebounds with 32 (10.7 per game) and is second in scoring at 12.0 points per game.
