Marshall is coming off a road win at Indiana State, 72-40, on Tuesday. The Herd dominated the final four minutes on a 16-3 run for the victory. Marshall led from the second quarter until the Sycamores used a 12-2 run midway through the fourth to take a one-point lead with five minutes remaining. Junior Kristen Mayo then took over, scoring 11 of her 13 points in the fourth, leading the Herd on its run. Mayo started with a layup to give Marshall back the lead and then nailed a three from the corner, right in front of the Herd's bench, on the next possession to go up by four. Marshall never looked back. The Herd also cleaned things up offensively in the second half after committing 12 turnovers in the first half to just one in the final 20 minutes. Freshman Savannah Wheeler led all scorers with 16 and was 9-of-10 from the free throw line.
Senior Ashley Saintigene continued to be a shot-blocking force with three more swats at Indiana State. She has 27 for the season, tied for sixth in the NCAA, and is fourth in the country in blocks per game (3.38). Saintigene has 108 in her career, just eight away from moving ahead of Chukwuka Ezeigbo (2011-15) for sixth all-time in program history.
Redshirt senior Khadaijia Brooks moved her consecutive games streak with at least one rebound to 71-straight after pulling down three at Indiana State. The last time Brooks did not record a rebound in a game in which she played goes all the way back to Feb. 18, 2016 at Charlotte of her freshman year. She played just three minutes off the bench against the 49ers.
Wheeler leads the Herd in scoring with 13.5 per game and is already over 100 points for the season (108). Mayo is second with 11.3 per game and junior Taylor Pearson (10.9) and Brooks (10.0) are both averaging double-figures. The Herd also sports three players pulling down right around six boards per game in Saintigene (6.5), Pearson (6.4) and Brooks (5.9).
Marshall is shooting 41.1 percent from the field and 33.7 percent from three-point range. The opposition is hitting on 31.1 percent from the floor and 27.9 percent from downtown.
Opponent
The Falcons, despite three losses, have a scoring margin of +11.5 per game. Bowling Green is averaging 79.1 points per game and allowing 67.6. The Falcons come into the game off a 98-60 win over Cal Baptist. Angela Perry went off for 36 points on 16-of-22 shooting. Mari Hill scored 17 and had seven boards. Caterrion Thompson, who missed all of last season with an injury, had her second double-double of the year with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Thompson leads the team in scoring with 15.6 per game. She scored 20 points in each of the first two games this season. She is also second in rebounds with 6.1 per game. Madisen Parker is second in scoring with 14.4 per game and is shooting 51.5 percent from the field. Perry is right behind with 14.3 points per game and is hitting 70.0 percent from the floor. Kadie Hempfling leads the Falcons in rebounds averaging 8.0 per game and also leads in assists with 5.0 per outing.
As a team, Bowling Green is shooting 46.1 percent from the field and 40.0 percent from three. The competition is hitting 39.3 percent from the floor and 27.2 percent from outside. The Falcons are also winning the rebounding battle with a +7.5 margin (42.1 to 34.6).
