HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall men's basketball (13-13, 6-7 C-USA) battled back from a 17-point deficit, but ultimately fell short Saturday night at the Henderson Center against UAB (15-11, 7-6 C-USA), 77-68.
Jon Elmore led the Herd with 20 points on a six-for-13 night from the field, while also leading Marshall with five assists and two steals and finishing tied with Jannson Williams with eight rebounds. Williams also had 10 points and four blocks on his stat line.
C.J. Burks and Taevion Kinsey also reached double-figure scoring for the Herd with 10 and 11 points, respectively.
Marshall trailed 38-31 at halftime despite shooting 46.2 percent from the field. UAB went 43.8 percent from the field in the opening half and forced nine Herd turnovers in the first half.
Trailing by as many as 17 with 10:19 left in the game, the Herd stormed back and cut the Blazers lead to two, 67-65, after a pair of Darius George free-throws with just a shade over three minutes remaining in the contest.
However, UAB scored seven of the final eight points in the last minute of play to pull away and take the game.
Notes
- This is the first four-game skid for the Herd this season.
- Jon Elmore has scored 20 or more points in 14 games this season.
- Tonight marked the eighth time this season the Herd had four players reach double-figure scoring. Marshall is 5-3 in such games.
