MURFREESBORO, Tn. – The Marshall women's basketball team returns to action Saturday when it travels to Conference USA foe Middle Tennessee. Tipoff against the Blue Raiders is set for 6 p.m. ET/5 p.m. CT in Murphy Center.

The Thundering Herd enters the game with a record of 14-11 and 8-4 in Conference USA play. The Blue Raiders are 19-6 and 10-2 and lead the all-time series 8-0.

The game will be broadcast on CUSA.tv and will also be carried on WMUL's (88.1 FM) Cutting Edge Sports Radio Network where it can be accessed through one of the Listen Live links at www.marshall.edu/wmul.

Last Time Out
UAB scored 25 of the fourth quarter's 33 points and Angela Vendrell had a double-double effort of 13 rebounds and 11 assists as the Blazers knocked off visiting Marshall 77-59 Thursday evening at Bartow Arena.

The Blazers improved to 20-5 and 8-4 in Conference USA, while the Thundering Herd had its four-game road conference winning streak snapped at four and dipped to 14-11 and 8-4.

Rachael Childress (21) and Deanna Kuzmanic (20) combined for 41 points and Childress knocked down five of her six 3-point attempts. In her last three games against Marshall, Childress has made 19 of her 27 triples (70.4 percent). Imani Johnson (15) and Katelynn Thomas (14) did a lot of damage on the inside for the home team, outside of Johnson's lone long-range connection.

Marshall was powered by a career-high 14 points from Princess Clemons, who also tallied six rebounds in 22 minutes off the bench. Shayna Gore added 12 and Khadaijia Brooks contributed 11 on 4-for-7 shooting.

Marshall led by as many as eight on a Gore 3-pointer from the top of the key that gave the Herd a 31-23 lead with 4:34 left in the second quarter. UAB rallied, though, and ran off a 15-2 run to take a five-point (38-33) lead into the halftime break.

The Herd got down by nine in the third quarter, but battled back to take a one-point advantage (51-50) on two Brooks free throws with 1:01 left.

Marshall trailed by one as the fourth quarter began but made just two of its 12 shots in the period as UAB gradually pulled away.

"We just didn't play well enough and we didn't play well enough together," said Marshall head coach Tony Kemper. "We're just struggling right now, defensively, particularly against those who have good offenses."

Clemons Makes Them Count
Marshall's Princess Clemons has made 14 of her last 15 free throws (93.3%) since starting the season 10-for-21 (47.6%) from the charity stripe.

Thursday Triumphs
Despite its 77-59 loss at UAB, the Thundering Herd is still 6-1 on Thursdays in 2018-19.

Gore Closing in on Big Marks
Marshall guard Shayna Gore is tied for second all-time at Marshall with 664 career field goals, the same total scored as Marshall Athletics Hall of Famer Kristina Behnfeldt (1995-99). Karen Pelphrey (1982-86), another Herd HOFer, had 1,175 to hold the school's top mark. Gore also has 1,926 career points, 74 shy of 2,000. Pelphrey (2,746) and Behnfeldt (2,117) are 1-2 there as well.

Money
Marshall's Taylor Porter made 24 consecutive free throws dating back to the first quarter against Delaware State on December 29 before finally missing in the fourth quarter of last Thursday's win over North Texas. For the season, she has missed just five (49-for-54, 90.7%) and her 25-for-27 mark (92.6%) in league play is third in the conference's rankings.

Mayo Finding the Range
Marshall guard Kristen Mayo made all six of her 3-point attempts against Coppin State on December 1st and then encountered a 7-for-42 (16.7 percent) swoon over her next nine games. However, in her last nine outings, she has hit on 41.9 percent (13-for-31) from the arc.

Moving up the C-USA Career Ranks
Marshall's Shayna Gore is in lofty company when you compare her numbers to Conference USA's all-time records. She is currently fifth in league history in 3-pointers with 282 and ninth in scoring with 1,926 career points.

Gore in C-USA This Season

She is currently second in scoring (19.5), 3-pointers per game (3.0) and minutes per game (34.0), fourth in steals (2.0), fifth in free throw percentage (81.2%), sixth in assists (3.4) and eighth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.5). In conference games, she leads the way with 35.5 minutes per game.

Career-Highs
Marshall's Princess Clemons had a career-high 14 points and five free throws made in Thursday's 77-59 loss at UAB.

34.0
