Three-Match Tennis Win Streak Halted at Tulane

NEW ORLEANS – Liz Stefancic and Madi Ballow extended their singles win streaks Saturday but host Tulane got the best of Marshall in a 5-2 win for the Green Wave at the City Park Tennis Center.

Marshall dropped the doubles point for the first time in the last four matches. Playing at the No. 1 spot for the first time in over a month, Stefancic and Ballow were defeated by Ivona Alvaro and Elena Muller, the 33rd-ranked pairing in the nation, 6-1. Matilde Mulatero and Victoria Walter lost to Christina Sisti and Adelaide Lavery, 6-1, in the deciding match. Anna Smith and Daniela Dankanych were ahead on Daniela La Fuente and Laura Fabrizi, 5-1, but their match went unfinished.

The Herd found itself in a 2-0 hole after Dankanych fell to Alvaro in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, to begin singles play but rallied to tie the match at 2-apiece. Ballow won her fourth straight singles match in straight sets over Sisti, 6-3, 6-1, and Stefancic tied the match with her sixth straight win, a 6-3, 6-2 win over Fabrizi.

Walter dropped a 7-5, 6-2 decision to La Fuente and Mulatero fell in the clinching match to Lavery, 6-3, 6-3. Smith took the first set of her match against Muller before falling in a super tiebreak, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0(7).
