Softball Defeats Monmouth, Called after Five Innings Due to Snow

FAIRFAX, Va. – On another cold day with snow falling, the Marshall softball team defeated Monmouth 1-0. The game was called after five innings due to the snow. The rest of the Friday schedule at the Cherry Blossom Classic, hosted by George Mason, was canceled.

The Thundering Herd improved to 15-5 while the Hawks fell to 5-6.

Senior pitcher Abigail Tolbert earned her 10th win of the season, and second-straight in bad weather, pitching all five innings. Tolbert tossed five strikeouts and allowed just one hit.

Marshall scored its lone run in the top of the first. Sophomore Armani Brown hit her second double of the season, advanced to third on a passed ball, and then scored on a ground out to second by sophomore Aly Harrell.

The Herd recorded three hits in the game. Sophomore Katie Adams hit a single to right in the second inning and junior Sierra Huerta legged out an infield single in the fourth.

As of Friday evening, the Saturday schedule for the Cherry Blossom Classic has not changed. Marshall is set to play Lafayette at 11 a.m., and George Mason at 3:45 p.m.
