Tennis Falls at No. 32 ODU in Regular Season Finale

NORFOLK, Va. – The Marshall women's tennis team closed its 2019 regular season Sunday with a 7-0 loss at No. 32 Old Dominion at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center. The match was the Herd's first against a ranked opponent this season.

Marshall struggled in doubles play against Conference USA's top-ranked team, as the Monarchs won both completed matches to take the first point. Madi Ballow and Liz Stefancic fell at the No. 2 spot, 6-0, while Victoria Walter and Matilde Mulatero were defeated at the No. 3 spot, 6-1. Anna Smith and Daniela Dankanych were trailing in the No. 1 singles match, 5-3, but their match went unfinished after ODU clinched the doubles point.

Old Dominion's momentum from doubles play carried into singles play, as the Monarchs took all six singles matches from the Herd. Walter was defeated by Brooke Pilkington at the No. 5 spot, 6-1, 6-0. Smith fell to No. 78 Holly Hutchinson, 6-3, 6-0. Dankanych was defeated by Yulia Starodubsteva, 6-4, 6-1, to clinch the match for the Monarchs. Mulatero lost to Louie McLelland, 6-2, 6-1. Stefancic fell to Nataliia Vlasova, 6-2, 6-4. Ballow batteld back to force a super tiebreak before falling to Oleksandra Andrieieva, 6-0, 4-6, 1-0.
