Women’s Soccer Announces Gonzalez and Powers as 2019 Captains

Seniors Metztli Gonzalez and Gabby Powers were voted captains by their teammates

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – 11th-year Marshall women's soccer head coach Kevin Long announced senior defender Metztli Gonzalez and senior midfielder/forward Gabby Powers as the captains of the 2019 Thundering Herd women's soccer team, as voted on by their teammates.
 
Gonzalez, a native of Fontana, Calif., played and started all 17 matches for Marshall during the 2018 season. She played in every minute in 16 of those matches, logging 1,555 minutes on pitch, second-most on the team. The defender helped the team to a pair of shutouts at High Point (Sept. 7) and at Old Dominion (Sept. 28).
 
Powers, a native of Knoxville, Tenn., also played in and started all 17 contests for the Herd last season. She logged 1,502 minutes on the pitch last season, fourth-most minutes on the roster, including a season-high 110 minutes in matches again Army (Aug. 29) and Louisiana Tech (Oct. 21). Powers also recorded an assist in the match at Army and a goal in the contest at LA Tech.
