Volleyball Falls at Indiana in Four

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Marshall volleyball team lost in four sets (13-25, 21-25, 25-20, 17-25) to the host team Indiana Hoosiers, 3-1, Friday night at the Indiana Invitational.

The Thundering Herd is now 1-1 while Indiana improves to 2-0.

"We competed hard against a strong Indiana team," coach Aganus said. "There were some good things to take away and some things we can work on moving forward. We battled in the third set and were able to make some adjustments. I'm proud of how we fought tonight. Now we shift our focus to Santa Clara tomorrow."

Redshirt junior Ciara Debell recorded 16 kills and added seven digs. Sophomore Sarah Schank tallied a career-high 12 kills and had eight digs. Senior Ivana Trencheva contributed nine kills and sophomore Mion Weldon had eight. Senior Amber Weber recorded 13 digs and also had three assists. Junior Sydney Lostumo finished with 26 assists and sophomore Gabrielle Coulter had 19 assists.

After falling in the first two sets, the Herd fought back to take the third set 25-20. Marshall led right from the beginning as Trencheva got the set started with a kill. Debell recorded six of her kills in the period including scoring the final point to close out the set.

The Herd kept it close through the first half of the fourth set and pulled within four at 18-14. The Hoosiers then pulled away and ended the match.

Marshall is back in action for its final match of the Indiana Invitational against Santa Clara, Saturday at 3 p.m.
