Women’s Golf Moves up Leaderboard After Big Second Round

Herd moves up three spots with third-best second round score

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Marshall women's golf team used a much-improved second round to move up the leaderboard after a rough first round, on day one of the Mary Fossum Invitational.
"We started out slow and struggled but sometimes we need to be put through adversity to truly see what we are made of," Herd head coach Brooke Burkhammer said. "They fought back and I am ready to see another improvement tomorrow on a tough course."
Marshall scored the second-worst score in the first round with a team total of 322. But then the Herd made the adjustments in the second round for an 18-stroke improvement, tied for third-best score in the round, and moved up from 10th to seventh.
Junior Kerri Parks had the best first round with a 2-over 74, then scored a 76 in the second round, and she is tied for 11th. Senior Shelby Brauckmuller made a big jump with an 8-stroke improvement in the second round and moved up 21 spots on the leaderboard. Brauckmuller is tied for 25th. Junior Jackie Schmidt saw her score improve by four strokes and moved up five spots. Freshman Peyton Schaffer was 10 strokes better in the second round and climbed 14 places. Junior Stormy Randazzo was six strokes better in the second and moved up nine spots.
Host team Michigan State has a 20-stroke lead over Western Kentucky. Four players for the Spartans are in the top four spots as well on the player leaderboard, with Paz Marfa leading the way by two strokes with a 2-under 142.
