Men’s Golf Wraps up Day One at River Run Collegiate

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Marshall men's golf team completed the first two rounds of the River Run Collegiate, Monday evening at the River Run Country Club.
The Thundering Herd is in 15th place.
"We had a tough day today," Herd head coach Matt Grobe said. "We didn't play well yesterday in the practice round and I just couldn't get us in the right mindset today. Tyler (Jones) started with a great round in the morning and I was pleased to see Will (Straub) bounce back in the afternoon. We have got to play better."
Freshman Tyler Jones began the day with a 1-under 71 in the first round but struggled in the second. Redshirt junior Will Straub improved by seven shots in the second round and moved up 14 spots on the leaderboard. Sophomore Kyle Mitchell and redshirt junior Matt Hoffman also improvement in the second round, dropping their score by three strokes. Senior Cole Moore, who is playing as an individual, saw a five-stroke improvement in the second round and moved up 12 places on the leaderboard.
James Madison is out in front in the team competition with an 11-stroke lead over Charlotte. The Dukes sit at 13-under. However, Trey Tobias of Charlotte leads the field after scoring a total of a 9-under 135 through the first two rounds. Tobias has a 3-stroke lead over Walker Cress of James Madison.
