Marshall Tennis Hits the Road for Three Dual Matches

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall women's tennis faces three teams on the road this weekend. The Herd starts Saturday off against Wright State at 2:30 p.m. and faces off with Dayton for a 6:00 p.m. match. The team rounds out the weekend against Toledo, Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

This weekend will be the first dual matches for the Herd of 2020.

HAVE YOU HERD?
Jutte Van Hansewyck went undefeated in the singles rounds last weekend in the MLK Invitational.
Â
Hansewyck along-side Madison Riley competed in the doubles matches together, leading the team with three wins on the weekend.
Â
Madi Ballow, Liz Stefanic, Anna Smith and Daniela Dankanych played rounds 1-4 with each other collecting three wins. On day three Kara Joseph joined Stefancic and as a pair went 2-0 on the day.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT: WRIGHT STATE
Wright State participated in the MLK Invitational at Indiana University last weekend against the Herd. In the doubles rounds the team collected seven wins however not facing Marshall in any doubles events.

For the singles rounds, Wright State's Anna Jones faced Joseph on day one and took the victory for Wright State (6-3, 6-3). However, Marshall's Ballow faced Grace Whitney and Van Hansewyck faced Luisa Pelayo and both Marshall women came out victorious.
SERIES HISTORY
Marshall is 5-0 against Wright State facing the team once in 2019 in Huntington, W.Va winning 5-2.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT: DAYTON
For the 2020 season the Lady Flyers' team features six returning players and four newcomers.
Â
In its first tournament of the season the Flyers faced Northern Kentucky where only Claire Ghidotti finished victorious. The first year collegiate athlete won a singles round. She was also the only lady Flyer to pull out the win at the Xavier dual contest.

This earned her the Atlantic 10's first Rookie of the Week award.

Marshall leads the series 1-0 against Dayton.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT: TOLEDO
The last time Toledo played was in the ITA Midwest Regional in the fall. Dee Dee Leenabanchong was a lead competitor for Toledo at the tournament with a win in the first round of the singles qualifier. She also teamed with Eileen Carney for the double action, where the two came back from a 5-0 deficit to win 8-5 in the first round.

Marshall leads the series 14-1 against Toledo. Â The last time the Herd met the Rockets was at the Thunder in the Mountains tournament last fall.
