Women’s Tennis Sweeps Weekend with Win over Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio – Marshall tennis starts season 3-0 after a 5-2 win over the Toledo Rockets on Sunday at Twos Athletic Club in Toledo, Ohio.
"I was very impressed with the competitive fight from Toledo," Head Coach John Mercer said following the match against Toledo. "But it was good to have everyone contribute to the win today in some form. A very good team effort."
Marshall won four of the singles matches with Daniela Dankanych (7-5, 5-7, 10-7), Jutte Van Hansewyck (6-3, 6-4), Liz Stefanici (6-1, 6-2) and Madison Riley (default) all ending the day victorious.
Marshall swept the doubles competition with all three teams winning their match. Dankanych and Stefanic defeating Toledo's Deedee Leenabanchong and Eileen Carney, 6-4. Anna Smith joined Riley in defeated Patricia Panta and Sloane Teske, 6-4. Madi Ballow and Van Hansewyck also collected a win by default.
Marshall looks to continue its win streak on the road against Penn State on Jan. 31 and Saint Francis on Feb. 2.
