Marshall falls for first time this season

Marshall drops (4-3) to Penn State on the road.
Huntington, W.V. – Marshall women's tennis (3-1) dropped its dual to Penn State (2-1) on Friday in University Park, PA.
"Great college tennis match," head coach John Mercer said. "Penn State is a very good Big Ten Team that always competes well, but a tough one to lose. The effort and intensity was excellent and improving with each match. Hopefully this will continue to drive us to make everyone better."
In the doubles round, Penn State came out victorious with Gabby O'Gorman and Frederikke Svarre defeating Anna Smith and Daniela Dankanych. Madi Ballow and Liz Stefancic fell 6-3 to Samantha Smith and Shannon Hanley. Jutte Van Hansewyck and Madison Riley played a close match with Olivia Ryan and Gracey Hirsch but the match was unfinished.
In the singles rounds, Hansewyck captured the first win for the Herd, 6-3, 6-4. Riley also finished the dual with a two-set victory winning 6-3, 6-0. Ballow rounded out the night by defeating Hanley, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).
Smith and Dankanych took their matches to three rounds, Smith winning round one and Dankanych winning round two but we unable to pull off the win.
