Men’s Soccer Announces 2020 Thunder in the Valley Tournament

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall men's soccer team will be hosting its annual Thunder in the Valley Soccer Tournament, Jan. 31-Feb. 2. The games will take place in three locations, Hoops Family Field, Gullickson Gym and the Chris Cline Athletic Indoor Complex depending on the weather.
The schedule will be on Friday, Jan. 31, high school boys and girls. Then Saturday, Feb. 1, all age groups will play. Followed on Sunday, Feb. 2, high school boys and girls again.
The tournament is open to boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 18.
"I'm excited to announce the 2020 edition of Thunder in the Valley, our annual soccer tournament," Herd head coach Chris Grassie said. "This tradition goes back all the way to my days as an assistant coach here and I'm looking forward to hosting this tournament yet again for our great local soccer community at our world class facilities.
"All the proceeds go directly to help our team in our quest to bring back championships to our fans. Thank you to all the teams and participants and good luck!"
The tournament features fast-paced, soccer action, and is WVSA sanctioned and approved. All teams will play a minimum of three games plus a possible championship match. Ages 8-11 will play 7v7 games, while teams aged 12 and up will play 6v6.
The cost to register is $200 per team, and there is a limit of 12 players per squad. Space is limited for the event as well, and the deadline for application is Jan. 28. For more information, please contact assistant coach Petsa Ivanovic at ivanovic@marshall.edu.
