Blue Raiders Travel to Huntington for WBB Tilt

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall women's basketball team (6-7, 1-1) will host Middle Tennessee (9-5, 1-1) on Thursday at 6 p.m. ET. The game will be a "Green Out" as all fans who plan to attend are encouraged to wear green.

Kia Sivils scored a career-high 16 points off the bench as the Marshall women's basketball team won 68-59 at North Texas Saturday afternoon in The Super Pit in Denton, Texas.
The Thundering Herd improved to 6-7 overall and 1-1 in Conference USA, while the Mean Green dropped to 7-7 and 1-1.
Sivils, Kristen Mayo (18 points) and Savannah Wheeler (17) combined for 51 of the Thundering Herd's points. Taylor Pearson ripped down nine rebounds (all defensive), while Mayo had a game-high four assists.
The Mean Green was led by Charlene Shepherd's 23 points and nine rebounds, but she was the only team member in double figures. Destinee McDowell had three assists.
The Thundering Herd built its largest lead (45-26) on a Wheeler layup with 5:24 left in the third period. However, the Mean Green responded with a 32-16 run over the next 12 minutes to pull to within three at 61-58 at the 2:49 mark on a McDowell layup.
Wheeler then made two free throws and Mayo delivered the decisive blow via a 3-pointer from the corner with 50 seconds left to put the Herd up 66-58.
"We shot the ball well and we shot good shots," said head coach Tony Kemper. "A number of our 3-pointers came with less than 10 seconds on the shot clock. We made some shots and that made our offense look better."
Marshall also won the rebounding battle 39-34.
Leading and Leading Late
Marshall is 6-1 this season when leading at the half and 5-1 when leading with five minutes left in regulation. Since the beginning of last season, the Thundering Herd is 19-6 when leading at the break and 19-3 when leading at the five-minute mark.
Hitting the Glass, Controlling the Paint
The Thundering Herd is 13-4 since the start of last season when it outrebounds the opposition and 15-2 when it scores more in the paint.
Career-Highs
Kia Sivils had a career-high 16 points and seven made field goals in the 68-59 win at North Texas.

Middle Tennessee comes into Thursday's game sporting a 9-5 overall record. The Blue Raiders are led by Anastasia Hayes, who averages 17.3 points and 4.3 assists per game. Charity Savage (11.7) is the team's top rebounder and also leads in blocks (15) and steals (27). Alexis Whittington (37.5, 15-40) makes the best percentage from 3-point range and from the free throw line (76.5, 13-17).
Middle Tennessee was picked second in the league's preseason poll and received three first-place votes. It began its C-USA slate by dropping a home game to Old Dominion (67-56) on Thursday before downing Charlotte (83-59) on Saturday.
The Blue Raiders are second in the league in defensive rebounding percentage (71.0) but are last in blocked shots per game (2.1).
