Marshall 15th in both polls
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall enters this week ranked 15th in both the Associated Press and Amway USA Today Coaches Polls, after improving by one spot in the former on Sunday.
The Thundering Herd (7-0 overall, 4-0 Conference USA) won 42-14 over Middle Tennessee on Saturday in Joan C. Edwards Stadium as the program hosted its annual game to remember those lost in the 1970 Southern Airways Flight 932 plane crash.
Grant Wells had a career day, going 25-for-37 for 336 yards and five touchdown passes (no interceptions) to go with 39 more yards on the ground. Wideouts Willie Johnson and Corey Gammage both caught two scores apiece, while the Herd's defensive and special teams units recovered three fumbles. All three miscues were then turned into touchdowns by the offense.
Marshall hosts Charlotte (2-3, 2-1) on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in a Stadium broadcast that will be carried by FOX's regional networks.
