HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall men's golf head coach Matt Grobe announced the signing of Ryan Bilby for the 2021-22 season on Friday.
"We are so excited to have Ryan join the Marshall Golf family," coach Grobe said. "Ryan has had a phenomenal junior career. He works extremely hard on his golf game and will be a great addition to our team. Academically, he is very solid and has great character. He will be a great addition to not only Marshall Golf but also Marshall University. We look forward to him joining us next fall."
Bilby starred for Brooke High School in Follansbee, W.Va. He has helped lead Brooke High School to back-to-back state championships.
"I am beyond blessed and excited for the opportunity Marshall University has given me to further my academic and athletics careers at the next level," Bilby said. "It has always been a dream of mine to play Division I golf, and it's just surreal that it has become a reality. Most importantly, I want to thank coach Grobe for believing in me and giving me this opportunity, along with my parents for all of their love and support. However, none of this would have been possible without my high school coach, Ron Ujcich. Over the past four years, Coach U has helped shape me into the golfer and young man I am today. I am so excited to start this next chapter of my life in his honor. Go Herd!"
Bilby's golf game has been steadily on the rise. He was named the West Virginia Callaway Sportsman of the Year in 2016 and the West Virginia Callaway Player of the Year in 2017. Bilby was the 2018 Pennsylvania Golf Association-Isalys Player of the Year, 15-16 year old division. Bilby is a three-time OVAC individual medalist from 2018-20. He earned an individual medal at the West Virginia State regional tournament as well. Bilby tied the course record at Williams Country Club in Weirton, W.Va., with an 8-under, 64 back in September.
