Herd Earns Podium Spots Thursday at C-USA Championships

ATLANTA—The Marshall University women's swimming and diving team completed day two of the four-day Conference USA Championship meet on Thursday at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta.

Catherine Bendziewicz finished as the league's runner-up in the 200 Yard Individual Medley with a time of 2:00.47.

Junior Darby Coles and seniors Bendziewicz, Hannah Robins and Jordyn O'Dell captured the bronze in the 200 Free Relay with a time of 1:31.94.

Coles completed the 50 Yard Freestyle event in fourth with a time of 23.02. Robins finished sixth with a time of 23.45 and O'Dell placed tenth with a time of 23.53.

Senior Madison Young recorded a 12th-place finish in the three-meter diving finals event with a final score of 238.95. Freshman Lauren Henderson followed behind in thirteenth with a score of 233.70.

In the team standings, Marshall currently sits fifth with 119.5 points.

"We had a strong showing tonight. There are several women who have not gotten into their primary events yet and we're in a pretty good spot after Day 2. Out of our nine evening swims, we had six lifetime bests and walked away with two medal performances. Catherine placed second tonight in the 200 IM and our 200 Free Relay finished third with the second fastest time in program history. Our divers Madison Young and Lauren Henderson placed 12th and 13th, respectively. Lauren's performance places her ninth all-time on the 3-meter springboard. Joelle Williams also had a lifetime best performance with her prelim list. Tomorrow will be a lot of fun as we will have 14 performances and in a position to make a significant move in the team standings."
