Marshall Women’s Tennis Battles Middle Tennessee and Furman on the Road

Tennis faces both Middle Tennessee and Furman in Greenville, S.C.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall (4-1) women's tennis continues play on the road against Middle Tennessee and Furman in Greenville, S.C. this weekend. The team will face Middle Tennessee on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and Furman on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

HAVE YOU HERD?
The Herd defeated Saint Francis last weekend 7-0. 
 
In the singles competition, Senior Daniela Dankanych and Freshman Jutte Van Hansewyck grasped the first two wins of the day. Sophomores Madi Ballow and Liz Stefancic along with graduate student Madison Riley also collected wins.
 
In doubles competition, Stefancic and Dankanych played as a team and collected the first win. Riley and Van Hansewyck along with Freshman Kara Joseph and Ballow won their double matches.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT: MIDDLE TENNESSEE
With a 3-2 record, Middle Tennessee has collected wins against Liberty, Tennessee State and Murray State this season. The team dropped an early match to South Alabama and its last match against Ball State.
 
Junior Lee Barnard, senior Lidia Burrows and freshman Muskan Gupta were those among the Blue Raiders to collect wins against Ball State despite falling short as a team.

SERIES HISTORY
Marshall leads the series 11-1 against Middle Tennessee. The last time these two teams met was March 15, 2019, when the Herd defeated the Blue Raiders, 4-3.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT: FURMAN
The 5-3 Furman Paladins started its season by dropping pair of matches, but were able to win five of its last six matches. The team had two 7-0 sweeps, the first against Davidson College and the second against the South Carolina.
 
The Paladins are coming off a 6-1 victory against Louisville. This was the first time the team has beaten as ACC school since 2007.
 
The team picked up two doubles wins, and five singles matches in four straight sets against Louisville.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Furman leads Marshall, 5-1 in all-time meetings. In the last matchup, Furman defeated Marshall, 7-0.
