Men’s Golf Improves Again on Final Day of Pinehurst Intercollegiate

Herd scored 5-strokes better as a team in round three

PINEHURST, N.C. – The Marshall men's golf team saw another improvement in the third round Sunday at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate. The Herd's team score was five shots better from the second round.
The Thundering Herd ended the event in eighth out of 13 teams.
"Another great day at Pinehurst for us today," Herd head coach Matt Grobe said. "We played some good golf and improved over the last couple of days. Tyler Jones finished up with a really solid tournament to lead the team. I was very pleased with the week that Ben Roeder and Cole Moore had. Brad Plaziak and Cameron Root also posted some nice rounds this week.
"Kyle Mitchell is playing some golf holes right now and I like the way he is playing. I also really enjoyed coaching Christian Boyd this week and I am really excited he has joined our team. As a team we are playing a lot better than we are scoring so we need to find ways to capitalize on our good ball striking.
"Looking forward to getting a couple of weeks of work at home before we head to Furman during Spring Break."
Freshman Tyler Jones finished tied for 14th to lead the Herd. Senior Cole Moore, playing as an individual, jumped up 12 spots on the leaderboard and finished tied for 21st. Redshirt junior Cameron Root improved by four strokes from the second round and moved up nine spots.
Elon ran away with the team title with a 20-stroke lead over Davidson. Graham Hutchinson of Elon held on for the win as well with a six-stroke lead over three players.
Marshall returns to the links, March 27-29, at the Furman Intercollegiate.
