Marshall welcomes No. 23 Appalachian State to Huntington on Saturday

Dear Thundering Herd fans:

The eyes of college football will be fixated on Huntington, West Virginia, on Saturday afternoon. CBS, America's Most Watched Network, is in town to broadcast our home football game against the nationally ranked Appalachian State Mountaineers. We have a respected, Top 25 program at Joan C. Edwards Stadium. We have a prime-time television slot on one of the big three networks.

This is an incredible opportunity for our football program, obviously, and our coaches, student-athletes and staff are excited about that. We know you will be passionate and loud cheering on the Herd from coast to coast. If you're inside the stadium – and we hope to see as many of you there as possible – please keep in mind that people across the country and beyond will be watching.

Our season opening win against Eastern Kentucky was a success. We were able to have a limited number of fans – including our students – at the stadium for that game. We know the guidelines are unique in 2020, and it can sometimes be difficult to adhere to them, but it is important we all continue to work together for the safety of one another.

Please remember: Tailgating is prohibited. Social distance inside and outside of the stadium. There will again be no re-entry once inside the stadium.

Masks must be worn at ALL TIMES once inside the stadium, including the concourse and when seated in the stadium. There will be workers patrolling the stands and we will have constant reminders throughout the game to make sure this happens. Also, please stay in your assigned seat. This is very important if we want to see the 2020 season to its conclusion, with or without fans.

And, remember, a nationally televised audience will be looking on. There are a lot of college football programs not participating this fall, and others are competing in empty stadiums. We want to be the blueprint for others to follow. Let's show them how it's done.

Until then, get ready. Saturday is going to be a special day for Marshall University, Marshall Athletics and Huntington.

Go Herd!

Mike Hamrick
