Women’s Tennis Closes Day One at CofC Halloween Invitational

The Herd took six matches on Friday
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Marshall University women's tennis team completed day one action at the College of Charleston Halloween Invitational on Friday with six victories.
"We played some great matches today," Marshall women's tennis head coach John Mercer said. "I thought we showed great improvement over the last month. We'll play with a purpose tomorrow and get better."
The Herd saw duos of Emma Vanderheyden/Liz Stefancic and Madi Ballow/Sophia Hurrion sweep a pair of doubles matches over Coastal Carolina's Victoire De Samucewicz/Paola Landin Lopez and Megan Hoptin/Jesse Hollins, respectively. Gabrielle Clairotte/Rieke Gillar took their match over Zoe Cauthen/Tiffany Pyritz, a pairing from Charleston Southern.
In singles against the College of Charleston, Vanderheyden continued her success on day one with a three-set triumph, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (5), over Slade Coetzee and Hurrion dropped just two games in a 6-0, 6-2 straight-set victory over Peyton Brotzman.
Jutte Van Hansewyck took her singles matchup in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, over McKenzie Daniel to close out the day for Marshall.
