Incoming freshmen for fall of 2022
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall volleyball head coach Ari Aganus announced the signing of two more players for the incoming freshman class for the fall of 2022 on Monday.
The new additions to the Herd family are Elli Barry and Flóra Sebestyén. Barry and Sebestyén join Bella Thompson and Bianca Giglio who signed earlier in November as incoming freshmen.
Barry is a right side hitter from Huntington, choosing to play for her hometown team. She has starred for Huntington High School with over 1,000 kills in her prep career. Barry was named All-Conference Honorable Mention from 2018-20, and then burst through to be named First Team All-Conference in 2021. She was named to the 2021 Queen of the Hill All-Tournament Team as well as the 2018 and 2021 Spikefest All-Tournament Teams. Barry has also competed in Track and Field. Her father Chad played football and basketball for Marshall in the early 1990s.
Barry chose Marshall because, "it felt like home."
"A huge part of the Marshall Family is keeping the community home," coach Aganus said. "With Elli having grown up with Marshall in her backyard we are so happy she's chosen to stay home and be part of our volleyball family. With her physicality, work ethic, and passion for Marshall Volleyball it will be an easy transition for her to make an impact."
Sebestyén is an outside hitter from Gyenesdias, Hungary, along the shore of Lake Balaton the largest lake in Central Europe. She has been starring for Andrássy Gyula Gimnazium where she has helped her team to two National Championships in 2019 and 2020. With her club team, MAV Elore SC, Sebestyén helped lead her squad to a second place finish at the Hungarian Cup in 2019 and a first place finish at the U19 National Championship in 2019.
Sebestyén chose Marshall because, "I liked the program and the whole mentality, I think it completely matches with mine. The coaches are very sympathetic, we could get along easily and the whole area felt so familiar."
"Flora brings a wealth of international experience that will translate onto our floor immediately," coach Aganus said. "She is a hard working six rotation outside that brings a lot of power and velocity into our gym. The process of getting to know Flora and her family has been special and I am very excited to have her join our family."
