The Opponent
St. Bonaventure is 6-3 and off to its best start since opening the 2016-17 season with a 5-3 record. The Bonnies had won three-straight with victories over Canisius (67-59), Binghamton (63-55) and Clarion (81-49) before dropping back-to-back games against Kent State (64-53) and then Bucknell (72-60). St. Bonaventure got back on track on Thursday, battling for a tough 61-56 win on the road at Colgate.
The Bonnies opened the game with a 14-8 lead after the first quarter, however the Raiders came storming back scoring 20 points and tying the game at 28-28 just before the half. The two teams continued to trade points back-and-forth in the third quarter before Colgate took a three-point lead into the fourth. The Bonnies settled down and fought back in the fourth getting some clutch baskets as well as a few defensive stops to take back the lead late and hang on. Asianae Johnson led the way with 17 points and was 7-of-11 from the line. Nikki Oppenheimer hit three three-pointers, all coming in the first half as the Bonnies were 0-for-5 from beyond the arc in the second half.
