HUNTINGTON, W.Va.Sydney Shelton has been promoted to Director of Marketing for Marshall Athletics, Chuck McGill, the Thundering Herd's Assistant AD for Fan/Donor Engagement and Communications announced on Thursday.

Shelton started working for the Herd's Marketing and Promotions Department in March of 2021. She works with all 16 sports, creating graphics, marketing plans and running in-game promotions.

Prior to joining the Herd's Marketing team, she worked in Marshall's Sports Information office for one year, serving as its tennis contact, along with assisting in many day-to-day operations.

She was also a teaching assistant for the Marshall University Communications Department and a graduate assistant with the Buck Harless Student Athlete Program.

"I want to thank Chuck McGill, (Interim AD) Jeff O'Malley and everyone involved in the search process," said Shelton. "When I stepped on campus in 2017, I knew this place was special. It was more than a school, more than a community, it was a family. I knew immediately that it was somewhere I wanted to be.

"I'm grateful for the opportunity to continue at Marshall in a new capacity and I'm looking forward to helping shine a light on all of our success."

As a Thundering Herd undergraduate, she received a bachelor's degree in public relations. In addition to her studies, she held the Sports Editor and Assistant Sports Editor positions with the Parthenon, the school's campus newspaper, and worked as a Multimedia Intern for the university's Marketing and Communications office. She also served as a student broadcaster with WMUL and was a part of the on- and off-air HerdVision team.

She began her association with Marshall Athletics as a student manager in the Olympic sports equipment office.

Prior to Marshall, Shelton attended Danville Community College where she played NJCAA Division III volleyball for two years.

"Sydney has a unique and refreshing perspective from her time as an athlete, student and fan, as well as her vast experiences in departments across Marshall's entire campus," McGill said. "She has a love and passion for this school and Herd family as a Daughter of Marshall, and I know she is going to pour her heart and soul into all aspects of this job.

"This is an exciting time at Marshall University and in collegiate athletics. Together, along with the shared vision from our leadership across campus and in the athletic department, we are going to spend every minute and exhaust every resource to help move Thundering Herd Athletics forward."
