Marshall Tennis Hits the Road to Face No. 14 Virginia

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall women's tennis team (1-1) kicks off the weekend with a match at No. 14 Virginia (3-1) in Charlottesville, Va. The contest is set for 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12.

Marshall is coming off its first win of the season against Middle Tennessee.

Duo's of Liz Stefancic/Jutte Van Hansewyck and Madi Ballow/Madison Riley secured the doubles point to kick off the match.

Anna Smith, Van Hansewyck and Riley all collected singles wins giving Marshall the win. Riley swept her singles set winning 6-2, 7-6.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT: UVA
UVA starts the season 3-1, with a 7-0 sweep over VCU. The other two wins were 4-1 wins against No. 18 South Carolina and Tennessee.

The Cavs lone lost was against Ohio State, where it dropped the match 4-2.

Freshman Emma Navarro was named the ACC Player and Freshman of the Week for her performance against South Carolina, this was her second time being named ACC Freshman of the Week. She was also ranked No. 5 newcomer in the ITA's preseason national ranking and is 4-0 on the top singles court.
Attendance rules per UVA: "Due to health and safety considerations, in addition to the current guidelines for sports venues set by the Commonwealth of Virginia, attendance for UVA home men's and women's indoor tennis competitions will be limited to the family of student-athletes and coaching staff until further notice."
