HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall men's soccer team, after one day's rest, is back on the pitch Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., as the East Tennessee State Buccaneers come to Hoops Family Field.
Marshall comes in at 1-0-1 while the Bucs enter at 0-2.

The Herd saw 24 different players get some playing time and seven of them scored a goal. Junior Vitor Dias led with two goals and two assists. Junior Jan-Erik Leinhos and redshirt sophomore Milo Yosef scored two goals each as well. Marshall outshot the Golden Bears 33-2 and 20-1 in shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper Oliver Semmle played the second half and did not face a single shot.
Sophomore Davi Edwards and freshman Kain Reed both scored their first career goals.
The Herd led 2-1 at the half and then took off with eight goals in the second half. It was the first time Marshall scored 10 goals in a match since Sept. 11, 1985 in a 10-0 victory over Eastern Kentucky. Senior Jamil Roberts recorded the final goal of the match after a steal just outside of the penalty box and then sent the ball passed the keeper from about 10 yards out.
Roberts also recorded two assists in the match to give him 17 in his Herd career, moving him into third place all-time in program history. Just in front of Roberts, in second place, is Ryan LaPointe who tallied 18 assists from 1989-93. The program's all-time leader is Marshall Athletics Hall of Famer Andy Zulauf (1981-85) who had 27.
The Opponent
ETSU has started the season with a 2-0 loss at home against Xavier, and then a 2-1 loss at Lipscomb. Freshman Jared Leheta has the lone goal so far for the Bucs. Through the first two matches, ETSU has been outshot 19-10 overall and 10-2 in shots on goal by the opposition.
The Bucs went 8-8-2 a season ago and are looking to replace the squad's top scorer from 2019 in Hauk Andreas Fossen, who scored eight goals. The top returning scorer is Kieran Richards (six goals and two assists) who has yet to play this season.
Goalkeeper Josh Perryman is back as last season he spent the majority of the time in net for ETSU with just over 1,600 minutes. He sported a goals against average of 1.01 last season and was in goal the last time these two teams met. In that 2019 match, Perryman allowed two goals and had three saves. Perryman played in the first match, the loss to Xavier, allowing two goals and recording four saves. Andrew Prescott played in goal in the loss to Lipscomb, allowing two goals and tallying two saves.
