HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University men's basketball team (12-6, 6-5 C-USA) fell at home Friday night to the North Texas Mean Green (13-6, 9-2 C-USA) by a final score of 77-65 at the Cam Henderson Center.

"[North Texas] is a good basketball team and play a similar style as us," head coach Dan D'Antoni said. "We had our chances. They handle the ball pretty well. When you get into a tight game, you have to handle the ball well and not have that many turnovers as we did."

Senior Mikel Beyers recorded his first career double-double with 14 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. The Herd was led in points by redshirt sophomore Andrew Taylor with 15 who went 6-of-10 from the field. Taylor added four assists and a steal to his stat line.

Junior Taevion Kinsey rounded out a trio of Herd student-athletes in double-figure points with 12 as senior Jarrod West had a game-high five assists and freshman David Early had a team-high three steals.

North Texas jumped out to a 5-0 lead and never trailed throughout the contest. After the Mean Green jumped out to a 19-7 lead, Marshall clawed back to tie the contest at 23 with a 10-0 run.
However, NT went on an 11-4 run to end the half as the Herd trailed 34-27 at the break.

The Mean Green finished the half on an 11-4 run to lead 34-27 at half, a lead which North Texas would never relinquish.
Marshall started the second half on a 6-0 run to close within one, 34-33, but 6-0, 7-0 and 9-0 runs by North Texas were leads the Thundering Herd never overcame as it fell at home.

NOTES
Marshall lost consecutive games to the Mean Green for the first time in the head-to-head history (L, 67-64 on 1/4/2020). The Herd still lead the all-time series 6-4.

The Herd is 6-6 this season when shooting less than 50% from the field and is 0-3 this season when scoring less than 70 points.

Jarrod West added one steal on bring his Marshall school record total to 248. He is just three shy of tying UTEP's Randy Culpepper (2008-11) mark of 251 as the second-most in Conference USA history.

Dan D'Antoni is 40-17 in home Conference USA games as head coach of the Herd.
