Marshall Tennis Drops Close Contest to Virginia Tech

This was the Herd’s first outdoor match of the season
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall tennis dropped its home contest against Virginia Tech, 4-3 in a battle until the end on Wednesday. The final point came down to a three-set showdown against Marshall's Anna Smith and VT's Tamara Barad Itzhaki which ended in the Hokies favor.

This match was the first outdoor match the Herd has hosted since the spring 2019 season.

Marshall kicked it into gear early taking the doubles point after Madison Ballow and Madison Riley defeated Annie Clark and Nina Sorkin, 6-4. Anna Smith and Dani Dankanych secured the point after beating Katie Andreini and Erika Cheng, 6-4.

Virginia Tech took three singles points early with Marshall players Reike Gillar, Jutte Van Hansewyck and Riley all dropping their sets.

Dani Dankanych secured the Herd's second point of the match after defeating Nika Kozar, 7-5, 6-2. Ballow dropped her first set against Rita Pinto but moved on to secure the Herd's final point 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.

VT's Barad Itzhaki defeated Smith 6-7(2), 6-2, 7-6(6) in a close contest for the winning point.
