Harrell and Stevenson tied for second all-time in career home runs
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Marshall softball team dropped a 9-5 decision against the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders on Saturday. The final game of the series is set for Sunday at 1 p.m. ET/12 p.m. CT.
The Thundering Herd falls to 12-6 overall and 1-2 in Conference USA. The Blue Raiders improve to 17-17 overall and 3-4 in C-USA.
Senior Aly Harrell hit a two-run homer in the third for her sixth of the season and 36th of her career, moving her ahead of Shaelynn Braxton (2013-15, '17), and temporarily junior Mya Stevenson, for second all-time. In the sixth inning, Stevenson jumped right back into the home run race with a solo homer for the 36th of her career. Harrell and Stevenson are now both tied for second all-time in program history. Four-time All-American Rachel Folden (2005-08) is in first with 58.
Marshall struggled in the circle and on defense as Middle Tennessee took advantage to jump out to an early 8-0 lead after the first two innings. The Herd scored two in the top of the third, before the Blue Raiders scored one more in the bottom of the inning. Marshall began to battle back late with one run in the sixth and two in the seventh, however Middle Tennessee ended the rally for the win.
Freshman Paige Halliwill had a double in the sixth, senior Katie Adams had an RBI double in the seventh. Freshman Kat Sackett had the other hit for Marshall with a single in the third.
Senior Laney Jones had the start in the circle and took the loss.
