DADE CITY, Fla. – The Marshall women's golf team played the first round of the Conference USA Championships on Monday at the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club. The teams began round two following the first round, however play was halted at 6 p.m. eastern.
Day one began with a lightning delay and the teams had to deal with another delay in the middle of the day. The league and the coaches decided to begin round two and play as much as they could manage due to the chance of inclement weather throughout the day on Tuesday. The teams will begin Tuesday with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. to attempt to finish round two. Round three is scheduled for Wednesday. Live scoring is provided by GolfStat.com.
The Thundering Herd is in 10th place after the first round. Marshall's players have between nine and 11 holes remaining in the second round.
Junior Jackie Schmidt leads Marshall after the first round, scoring a 2-over 74, and is tied for 19th. Schmidt totaled three birdies in the round. Senior Stormy Randazzo was next for the Herd after a 4-over 76. Junior Torren Kalaskey scored three birdies, sophomore Makena Rauch had two birdies and senior Kerri Parks had one.
WKU led at the end of the first round with a 6-under team score of 282, a five-stroke lead over No. 33 North Texas. Megan Clarke of WKU is the early leader after finishing with a 7-under 65, one stroke ahead of Audrey Tan of North Texas.
