Jones Named to Conference USA All-Academic Team

Sophomore with first All-Academic team selection
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall men's golf sophomore Tyler Jones was named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team, the league office announced Thursday.
This is the first all-academic team selection for Jones.
"This is a great honor for Tyler and is very well deserved," Herd head coach Matt Grobe said. "Tyler has done an outstanding job on the golf course and in the classroom."
Jones has been a star on the course and in the classroom for Marshall over the past two years. The Westerville, Ohio native maintains a 4.0 cumulative grade point average as a management major. At the end of his freshman season he was named to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and earned the Academic Medal. He is on target to repeat in both.
The sophomore has played in five of the Herd's six matches this spring and was Marshall's top finisher in four. He leads the team with a 73.67 stroke average and placed in the top 20 in four events and the top 10 in two. His best finish of the spring was at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate where he tied for seventh place.
Jones also finished tied for eighth at the Irish Creek Intercollegiate after scoring a career-best 4-under 67 in the final round to jump up 22 places on the leaderboard. In the third round, Jones recorded three birdies and an eagle on No. 14 to help him finish ahead of three golfers all ranked in the GolfStat Top 100. So far this spring, he has shot par or better on 212 of a possible 270 holes, good for 78.5 percent.
Up next for Marshall is the Conference USA Championships, April 26-28, at the Texarkana Country Club in Texarkana, Ark.
