Herd Women’s Soccer Falls in 2021 Spring Finale to Middle Tennessee

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall women's soccer (3-7, 0-6 C-USA) dropped its final game of the 2021 Spring regular season to the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (3-3, 3-3 C-USA), 7-2, on Friday night at Hoops Family Field.
"The toughest thing to do is to talk to your team after that," head coach Michael Swan said after the loss. "I told them individually you let yourselves down tonight."
MU freshman goalkeeper Regan Meyer made a save in the fifth minute. Then mere ticks of the clock later, Marshall sophomore Morgan White drew a foul and went to the spot in the fifth minute, but MT goalkeeper Hannah Suder saved the penalty attempt.
Caroline Manley scored a penalty for the Blue Raiders in the 24th minute. Less than a minute later, freshman Abi Hugh netted her eighth goal of the season on an assist from Morgan White to tie the game 1-1.
Then in the 28th minute, Carolin Engelhard put MT back on top with a goal shortly after a corner.
Meyer made a pair of saves in the final three minutes to keep the deficit at 2-1 heading into halftime.
Peyton DePriest added to the Blue Raider lead with a goal in the 50th minute.
MU sophomore Iselin Noevik then took a shot from outside the box and buried it home on an assist from Kat Gonzalez to bring the deficit back to one, 3-2, in the 52nd minute.
MT's Ashley Shimberg scored goals in the 72nd, 76th, 89th and 90th minutes.
Meyer made three of her eight saves in the second half.
