JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Marshall track and field's four qualified athletes competed Thursday in the NCAA East Preliminary Round. The meet took place at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida.

Ashonti Warner set a school record in the 400 meter hurdles and qualified to the quarterfinals in the event, to be held Saturday. Her new record time, which broke the previous school record she set last weekend at the Conference USA Championships, was 58.91.

The top three in each of the six heats of the event qualified automatically for Saturday, plus the next six best overall times. She finished fifth in her heat but qualified with the 22nd best time in the field of 48 athletes.

Warner will compete Saturday at 7:55 p.m. EST for a chance to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon. She must finish in the top three in her heat or have among the best three remaining times. Overall, 12 athletes from the East Region head to Oregon.

She aims to become the first Marshall athlete to qualify for the Outdoor Championships since Jasia Richardson qualified in the triple jump in 2014.

The stellar freshman season for Mikah Alleyne came to an end in the 400m hurdles. She was in second in her heat heading down the final stretch but hit the second to last hurdle and fell. She got back up to finish with a time of 1:04.10.

Lauren Zaglifa did not clear the bar in her attempts at the pole vault. She finishes her career as the outdoor school record holder in the event, a two-time All-Conference USA honoree, and the first pole vaulter in program history to earn a spot in the NCAA East Preliminary Round.

Safiyyah Mitchell in the 100 meter hurdles made a strong push with three hurdles to go but crashed into a hurdle and fell. The Huntington native finishes her career as the school's 60 meter hurdles school record holder, an eight-time All-Conference USA honoree, and as a Conference USA Champion in the 2021 100 meter hurdles.
