Men’s Soccer’s Winquist Awarded C-USA Postgraduate Scholarship

Award named in honor of Jim Castañeda
IRVING, Texas – Marshall men's soccer senior goalkeeper Kyle Winquist was awarded the Jim Castañeda Postgraduate Scholarship by Conference USA, the league office announced.
The 12th annual award is named in honor of Dr. Jim Castañeda who served Rice for 46 years as an educator, coach and Faculty Athletics Representative before he passed away in 2008. Every season, C-USA grants the $4,000 scholarship to distinguished graduates selected by the league's Faculty Athletics Representatives and approved by the Board of Directors.
Winquist is a four-time member of the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor and received the Academic Medal in 2021 for a cumulative grade point average of 3.75 or better. The Medina, Ohio, native appeared in three matches during his time with the Herd, totaling 227 minutes on the pitch. Winquist played in two matches with one start as a freshman in 2017 and recorded four saves. He played a season-high 92 minutes against Northern Kentucky and had four saves against Purdue Fort Wayne.
This season, Winquist started and played the first half against West Virginia Tech and earned the win. After winning the National Championship with the Herd, Winquist has been accepted to Law School at Villanova and plans to become a sports agent.
