Grobe Announces Men’s Golf 2021-22 Schedule

Herd to host Joe Feagnes Marshall Invitational Sept. 13-14
Marshall Men's Golf Schedule
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall men's golf head coach Matt Grobe announced the Thundering Herd's 2021-22 schedule Tuesday. The Herd is set to play in 11 regular season tournaments, and will tee off the year at the Eastern Kentucky Fall Intercollegiate on Sept. 3-4.
"We are very excited about our schedule this year," coach Grobe said. "We have some great events that we have played for the last several years and we were able to add some really good events that we haven't played before. We have a really good mix of golf courses and some great competition this year. We are looking forward to competing on some great venues against some great teams."
Marshall returns most of its squad from the 2020-21 season, only losing Matt Hoffman, Cameron Root and Will Straub to graduation. The most experienced of the returners are All-Academic Team member Tyler Jones, Brad Plaziak, Noah Mullens, Christian Boyd and Kyle Mitchell. The Herd welcomes two newcomers for 2021-22 in freshmen Ryan Bilby and Clayton Thomas.
Following the two-day event at EKU, Marshall will again host the annual Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational, Sept. 13-14, at the Guyan Golf & Country Club. The event began in 1968, was not played in 1970 and 1971, and has been on every year since 1972. However, the tournament named for the Herd's former head coach, was canceled this past year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Marshall finishes out the fall portion of the schedule at the River Run Collegiate (Sept. 20-21) hosted by Davidson College, the Mountaineer Intercollegiate (Oct. 4-5) hosted by WVU at the Pete Dye Golf Club, and the Dayton Flyer Intercollegiate (Oct. 18-19) hosted by Dayton.
The Herd begins the spring competition at the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate (Feb. 6-7) hosted by Georgia Southern. Marshall then plays in five more regular season events beginning with the Loyola Intercollegiate (Feb. 20-22) hosted by Loyola University Maryland and played in Goodyear, Ariz. The remaining tournaments are the Sea Palms Invitational (March 4-5) hosted by Western Carolina, the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate (March 13-15) hosted by Tennessee Tech, the Golfweek Any Given Tuesday Intercollegiate (March 28-30), and finally the Irish Creek Intercollegiate (April 2-3) hosted by Charlotte.
The team then heads to Texarkana, Ark., for the Conference USA Championships, April 25-28.
