Hurrion/Joseph triumph twice in doubles
KANAWHA CITY, W.Va. – Marshall's tennis team completed its first day of competition at the Thunder In the Mountains Tournament on Friday, a three-day event that is being held at Schoenbaum Tennis Courts in Kanawha City.
Â
The Herd got singles victories over Villanova from Madi Ballow, Emma Vanderheyden, Sophia Hurrion, Jutte Van Hansewyck, Rieke Gillar, Liz Stefancic and Kylie Fisher.
Â
The Herd received a pair of doubles victories over two separate Saint Francis doubles teams by Hurrion and Kara Joseph.
Â
"We basically have six newcomers this fall since the two we had last year didn't get to play a fall and then we had so much experience back last spring," said Marshall head coach John Mercer. "This is a good opportunity to stay close to home and compete against some good teams and play good matches. It's always fun to see different teams and different players."
Â
"Today, we played at a completely different level than our first tournament (at Liberty), so that's good to see. I expect that we'll continue to see more 'buy-in' from our players and this is a step forward in that process."
Â
Action will continue Saturday and Sunday with a 9 a.m. start scheduled for both days.
