Herd Has Another Big Day at Thunder In the Mountains Tournament

Marshall, WVU take the court at noon on Sunday
KANAWHA CITY, W.Va. – Marshall's tennis team captured 10 singles wins, including a sweep of West Virginia State, on Saturday in the second day of competition at Thunder In the Mountains.

The tournament is being held at the Schoenbaum Tennis Courts in Kanawha City.

Sophia Hurrion, Madi Ballow, Emma Vanderheyden and Jutte Van Hansewyck all won twice in straight sets in singles play.

Liz Stefancic and Rieke Gillar picked up a victory at No. 3 doubles against Villanova, while Aisling McGrane and Hurrion followed suit against the Wildcats with a 6-3 triumph of their own.

"It was another good day," said head coach John Mercer. "We got two rounds of singles in and one of doubles. I thought we got better as the day went along. I really like how we finished. There was good intensity and focus throughout the matches."

"We should have a good match tomorrow with WVU. I know we're looking forward to that. It should be a good test for us to see where we are and it will give us some things to work on heading into next week."

The Thundering Herd and WVU will compete in singles and doubles tomorrow in action that is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
