Herd wraps up competition in Kanawha City
KANAWHA CITY, W.Va. – Marshall's Madi Ballow and Liz Stefancic each recorded singles victories on the final day of competition at the Thunder In The Mountains Tournament in Kanawha City.
Â
As was the case Friday and Saturday, Sunday's matches were played at Schoenbaum Tennis Courts.
Â
Ballow defeated WVU's Kendall Kovick 7-6, 2-6, 1-0 (10-5), while Stefancic knocked off the Mountaineers' Momoko Nagato 6-4, 6-0.
Â
Ting-Pei Chang, Camilla Bossi, Michaela Kucharova and Penny Hsieh were victorious for WVU.
Â
"I thought it was a really good match and I liked our level of intensity," said Marshall head coach John Mercer. "I'm really proud of how we worked. I think today was, not only great for our team, but great for both programs, because of the 'edge' that today brought. That's typical of a Marshall-WVU matchup. To get that, this early in the fall, will benefit both teams."
Â
"Thanks to Rusty Webb, for putting all of this on, and to (WVU head coach) Miha (Lisac) for his hard work as well. Hopefully this will continue to grow. I'm sure it will."
