Semmle, helping to lead the defensive effort with his passing and direction to his teammates, did not face a shot on goal until the 58th minute and made the stop. He tallied his second save of the night in the 68th minute which was Akron's final shot on goal.

His fourth save of the night came in the 60th minute as the Kentucky attacker attempted to go low but could not beat Semmle.
UK's final shot on goal of the night was in the 93rd minute in the first overtime. Semmle found himself one-on-one with Eythor Bjorgolfsson, the Wildcats leading scorer and an all-conference selection. Semmle stepped out to the edge of the six-yard box to cut off Bjorgolfsson and then deflected the attempted shot out of bounds which gave the Wildcats a corner kick. Semmle then read the corner kick attempt and jumped out to punch the ball away which his defense then cleared out of the box. Marshall did not allow a single shot in the second overtime.
