First weekly award for Milton, W.Va., native

DALLAS – Marshall men's golf fifth-year senior Noah Mullens was named Conference USA Men's Golfer of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.

Mullens tied for sixth overall out of 92 golfers at the EKU Intercollegiate, Sept. 3-4.

"Noah played really good golf this week and has become a great leader for our team," Herd head coach Matt Grobe said. "He has worked so hard through his college career, and it is really nice to see that work pay off with good results."

The Milton, W.Va., native earned his first weekly award after his great performance in the season-opener. Mullens started the tournament with a 2-over 72 in the first round, but then came charging up the standings with a 2-under 68 in the second round. He moved up 12 places on the leaderboard to reach the top 10, tied for eighth. Mullens finished with eight total birdies in the first two rounds.

In the final round on Saturday, the fifth-year senior shot another 2-under 68 and moved up two more places on the leaderboard. Mullens totaled 11 birdies and shot par or better on 45-of-54 holes. His play helped the Herd to finish tied for fifth out of 16 teams.

Mullens began his collegiate career playing at Southern Wesleyan University in Central, S.C. He transferred to Marshall in the spring of 2020 and had to wait until the fall of 2020 to be eligible to play after the move. Unfortunately for Mullens, he had to wait a little longer to make his Herd debut as the fall season was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Mullens was finally able to compete for Marshall in the spring of 2021 at the Sea Palms Invitational back on March 4-6. He competed in four events in the spring for the Herd and is off to a great start for his final collegiate season.
