Marshall Tennis Heads to Louisville for Pair of Duals

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University tennis team travels to Louisville, Kentucky, to face the Louisville Cardinals on Friday and the Bellarmine Knights on Saturday.

The Herd split a pair of matches last weekend as it fell 7-0 to the No. 7 Virginia Cavaliers and swept the Longwood Lancers 4-0.

In doubles against the Lancers, Emma Vanderheyden/Liz Stefancic picked up a convincing 6-2 victory over Maria Saez/Nina Hederich. Madi Ballow/Aisling McGrane sealed the doubles point with a 6-3 triumph against the pairing of Emma Nurgazieva/Karina Rizvanova. Jutte Van Hansewyck/Gabrielle Clairotte were tied 3-3 on court three as their match went unfinished.

Van Hansewyck picked up the first win in singles over Longwood on court six as she dropped just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 defeat of Alexandra Hincu.

Clairotte carried the momentum on court five with a 6-2, 6-2, win over Hederich. Stefancic then clinched the sweep for Marshall taking down Saez on court two 6-3, 6-2.

Vanderheyden, Ballow and McGrane were all leading in their respective matches when the Herd sealed the win.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT: Louisville
Friday will be the Cardinals first action of the spring as it hosts the Cincinnati Bearcats earlier in the day at 11 a.m.

UofL doubles pairing Andrea DiPalma and Rhea Verma are ranked No. 31 in the nation.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT: Bellarmine
The Knights dropped their first dual of the spring, 5-2, to Western Kentucky on Monday.

Ekaterina Tikhonko and Madison Devillez each picked up singles victories against the Hilltoppers. Tikhonko won a team-high four matches in the fall.
